USGBC & LEED

SHANNON SCOTT DESIGN JOINS USGBC & PREPARES FOR LEED ACCREDITATION...

Shari & Shannon

I continually seek to expand my knowledge, skills, and affiliations with other like-minded green/environmentally conscious organizations, colleagues, and sources.  Making the next big step towards my commitment as a green professional, today I joined the local chapter of the USGBC (U.S. Green Building Council), C4 (CA Central Coast Chapter).

USGBC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit community of leaders working to make green buildings available to everyone within a generation.  They developed the LEED rating certification system. For those of you who are unfamiliar with LEED, this is what it is in a nutshell:

LEED is an internationally recognized certification system that measures how well a building or community performs across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.

Developed by the USGBC, LEED provides building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, consctruction, operations, and maintenance solutions.

LEED is flexible enough to apply to all building types - commercial as well as residential.  It works throughout a buildings lifecycle - design and construction, operations and maintenance, tenant fitout, and significant retrofit.  And LEED for neighborhood development extens the benefits of LEED beyond the building footprint into the neighborhood it serves.

For more information on the USGBC and LEED you may visit their website: www.usgbc.org.

We are excited to be starting on a LEED Platinum (the highest rating) for Homes project this year, and have a couple of additional LEED projects in the pipeline.  I will be posting updates as they occur.

Shari and I will begin preparing for LEED Professional Accreditation, gaining the knowledge and skills required to successfully steward the LEED certification process...study buddies for the upcoming exam!!

With that said...it's time to study!        ...Shannon
